Bulgaria Prices?

Отговор : You will find it hard to get a qualified opticians in either sunny beach or golden sands, I don't think you could use your prescription over there, when I was in Bulgaria several years ago designer frames was not very modern - with things like that they are about 20 years behind us and the same with clothes, if you've not been before you will find it a different way of life, when I was there we couldn't even buy milk for our coffee we had to que up at a health clinic and buy baby formula, It reminded me of during the war when you qued up for the rations. That's why they all want into our country, watch out for the prostitutes they are everywhere.

Отговор : I always use OPTIK MATT - they sell German lenses and frames; very good quality.
A pair of heliomatic glasses with a good-looking frame can be about 400 lv.
My husband had some bifocals made, about 700 lv.
Good service, friendly and reliable.
They also sell lenses - Bausch and Lomb; with all the solutions and containers you might need for them.
There is a doctor in the afternoon; if you order with them, the consultation is free.

Отговор : I agree with what Svetla said. I also went to Optik Matt. I have bought stuff from there and they are still perfect! But I do admit that I had to wait for my glasses for about 2 weeks...

Отговор : Optik Matt are to be recommended but there are many other opticians to choose from. Your best bet is Bourgas or Varna where you will find many optician that can cater for your needs and a a price that will make you never want to buy from a UK optician again. You may have to wait for your prescription but if you order within the first day or so on your trip this should be more than enough time for you to go back home with them.
Designer frames are available and the quality is good at the top end with a good choice in the Cities so no worries there.
Just one other word of reassurance, the Bulgarian opticians are just as well qualified, in fact better qualified than some UK 'quick fit' services and you will get a much better personal service from them as well!

EASTERN EUROPE: CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN BULGARIA

If you lived in Eastern Europe, would you celebrate Christmas differently than you do here in the United States? The answer is yes, but each Eastern European country’s traditions are slightly different.

Christmas is a very important holy day in BULGARIA. It is also very family-centered. Santa Claus is the gift-giver and just as in many other nations, children write a letter to Santa Claus to tell him what they want for Christmas. Around the 23rd of December, your and your family will go out to the shops and buy the food and other items needed for the holiday, including a Christmas tree. Since Bulgarian Christmases are very cold and often snowy, the food that can’t fit in the refrigerator can be left outside on the ledge of the balcony. Next, you and your family will bring the Christmas tree into the living room. Decorating is done to the music of Christmas carols playing on the CD player, and you may even sing along! Multicolored lights or candles are put on the tree along with ornaments and cotton balls to imitate snow. Can you reach high enough to put the star on the top of the tree?

During the day of December 24th, your mother will begin preparing traditional vegetarian food. No meat is served at the Christmas Eve dinner. When evening comes, you will put on your best clothes and everyone will gather at the home of the oldest grandparent for a big dinner. Among the traditional foods you will eat, are white bean soup, red dried peppers filled with white beans, and boiled prunes served in their liquid.

The dinner ends with another Bulgarian Christmas custom. The oldest person breaks off pieces of the traditional homemade bread in which a coin was placed before it was baked. Everyone gets a piece and whoever gets the piece with the coin in will become very wealthy in the New Year. Will you get the coin? The Christmas Eve table is not cleared until the following morning, a typical tradition to insure that there will be plenty of food in the coming year.

Christmas morning, you will wake up to find that Santa left your presents under the Christmas tree. Everyone opens their presents and then has breakfast. During the day, you might call friends and relatives to wish them “Chestita Koleda” (Merry Christmas) and “Chestita Nova Godina” (Happy New Year). Maybe you’ll make arrangements to meet somewhere and have a snowball fight! In the evening everyone stays up late or goes to a Christmas Concert in the theater! Sooroovakane, the patting of adults by children with a specially made sort of stick-wand is an interesting Bulgarian Christmas tradition. The stick-wand is called a Sooroovachka. It is made from a short thick stick with branches all along either side. The branches are tied together to form round circles with the trunk of the stick in the center of the circles. The circles and the trunk of the stick are wrapped with red and white woolen and cotton yarn and then decorated with little cotton balls, strings of popcorn, raisins, prunes, and dried apple slices, and dried peppers. Using the Sooroovachka , children pat their parents, grandparents, extended family, friends and any visitors in the house after the Christmas Eve. While patting, the kids say a wish for health, wealth, and happiness to one patted. It is believed that this action, called Sooroovakan, will make all wishes come true during the next year and will make sure that the year will be very fertile and productive for the person patted. But the patted person must “buy” their success for the coming year by giving the child patting them money. Who would you want to Sooroovakan?

Какво мислите за България и защо?

Тук една наша сънародничка хвърля гръм и мълнии върху тези чужденци, които говорят за страната ни без да знаят нищо за нея! Нека видим за какво става въпрос.

Въпросът - Please give your opinion of what you think of Bulgaria and why?
Описание ( I just dont get it? Are most of the people so negative about Bulgaria? Were you born there?
I just finished reading some comments on Bulgaria and i am actually pist off(this not only pissed me off but made me cry). How come people make such objective opinion when in fact they really dont have a clue what they are talking about.Bulgaria is poor the one said. They steal the other one said. They dont speak English third one said.Only few people that really have some knowledge had to say normal things.I am Bulgarian neither i steal neither i am poor and in fact got degree and my husband family is English. So nothing against but explain why so horrible unfair things are said? Please give your opinion of what you think of Bulgaria and why .How well you think you know.I will be also very happy if there is any other bg people to tell everybody how they feel?Thanks... )

Отговор : I am Greek and I have very positive attitude towards Bulgarian people. Bulgaria brings to my mind a beautiful church (I think it is called Alexander Nevsky) in Sophia and roses (southern Bulgaria I think). Also a famous convent/monastery(?) (Rilla?) It is true that Bulgaria is considered a less wealthy state than western European states but nobody blames the Bulgarian people but communism (some counties are considered to have cultures of laziness). And even if some Greek people consider Bulgaria less wealthy they often characterize it as cultivated like other eastern European countries. I remember when I visited Italy many people told me to be careful because many people there steel. Stupid stereotypes don't meen anything. Even positive stereotypes are sometimes stupid.
Here are some stereotypes that will make you understand that stereotypes about Bulgarian people aren't something special.
So, for Greek people:

Italians steel
French are dirty and they don't shower much
English males are gay
Arabs and perhaps Mexicans are lazy
Dutch people are drug addicts
Scandinavian females are sex maniacs
For the rest of the world Greeks are pedophiles and so on with the stupidity

Positive stereotypes are also silly
All Italians are opera experts
All Eastern Europeans play chess and love ballet
All French are romantic
I hope that you get my point

Отговор : I know two Bulgarian girls my age, and my friend and I went to their house. The whole family was very nice.

Отговор : In fact we eat people :) raw
And yes, i steal, I can steal you girlfriend... (Whoever said we do)
C'mon guys
population only 8 mln. and we have 7.9 mln highly educated
btw. English is my fourth language, the young Bulgarians do speak, and who says the knowledge of English measure the person?

Отговор : I like Bulgaria very much, and I have no idea why someone would speak negatively about them?

Кой е най-евтиният транспорт от България до Гърция?

Кой ли е най-евтиният транспорт у нас? Нека видим какво мислят чужденците..

Въпросът - To travel from Bulgaria to Greece in April what's the cheapest way by public transport ?

Отговор : Take the train from Vienna to Sofia.
Take train from Sofia to Salonica or Athens.
Those are your best bets.

Отговор : Bob is right, the train is the best option. The trains in Bulgaria are not like the high speed ones we use, but they are reliable and extremely affordable.

Отговор : Hi, you can hire a car from bulgaria for 20-25 euros per day and drive to Greece. I am not sure wether you can leave the country with hired car, but you can ask in the car agency. There are many companies that have regular buses to Greece, I checked tickets start from 40 to 90 euro (from Bulgaria to Greece to Bulgaria, one way ticket is on half price). When you come to Bulgaria check with your friend possible charter flights to Greece, but this solution is more expensive. Don't worry price of tickets in BUlgaria is not so high, most foregners find life here very affordable ans easy :) Hope this helps, Rumi.
