Theirs has more of a Turkish influence than a Western European influence. They're big on yoghurt, rich salads and dairy dishes.

Most Bulgarians I know eat the following:
1. Sheaves of wet, warm parboiled wheat.
2. Dirt, with salt and pepper
3. Soylent Green
4. Bacon and Liver Sandwiches
5. Wilted lettuce salad
6. Bog-pieces

Отговор : how about BULGARIAN food

I'd advice you to keep away from complicated recipes cause it's hard to make something the way it is made in a country on the other side of the world. Keep it simple.
I am from Bulgaria too.
Try making him a Tarator:
1-2 cucumbers
500 g yoghurt ( if you find active-live it's better )
3-4 cloves garlic
dill, sunflower oil and salt
Beat the yoghourt, add the crushed garlic, finely diced cucumbers, oil and salt. Stir and dilute with cold water. Serve sprinkled with finely chopped dill.
Tarator is a salad soup served cold and is a favorite for every bulgarian. Also it is something that we miss when we go abroad. I can guarantee you that this is very good surprise for him and that he will be delighted.
For the main dish you can try the Mousakka but it will be hard to do it like his mother has done it for him...

Bulgaria good or bad?
Описание: ( Bulgaria good or bad? Im thinking about going there in june but heard a few things about it and just like to know if there true..muggers,girls offering thier services and weather as bad as the uk??)

I love it but then I am partial because its my country:)
Is the UK good or bad?
I've been to the UK, Bulgarian weather is definitely better, at least its much warmer. As everywhere else close to the sea it never gets as warm (in the summer) and as cold (in the winter) as inland Bulgaria.
Sunny Beach is full of new very nice hotels, there are water parks, restaurants, night clubs, etc. As for muggers and ''service girls'' - maybe there are some, but I guess you get them everywhere in big holiday places.
A smaller more restricted holiday place is "Dyuni". Also, there are very very nice hotels in places like Primorsko and Sozopol.
If you decide to come - don't bother, you'll have more than plenty to do.
The only way to answer your question is to see for yourself - your personal experience is what matters.

I believe everywhere is good if you go with the right positive attitude I am sure there are some wonderful Bulgarians
Have a great holiday, you deserve it

Geez - I hope they have Girls - otherwise where do they come from ???

Отговор : good, cheap up and coming holiday resort. you get muggers, girls offering services etc...anywhere you go in the world, just dont go alone in places you dont know or where your representative says are no go areas.
as for weather, hot during summer, and is a great place for skiing and snowboarding!

Отговор : I went 2 years ago. The weather was amazingly hot ... a few thunder storms though. We went to Sunny beach. Think a beat like cheesy Blackpool but CHEAP CHEAP booze, food , fags, CD'S ,DVDS etc. The People are amazingly nice but I would avoid taxi drivers ... we were told they were a bit dodgy. What else.... we flew with Bulgarian lines or something and stayed at Sunny Hotel (i think) That place was really nice. Try and get an apartment, its better if there is a random thunderstorm. The beaches are nice you can practically rent a sun lounger anywhere and there's life guards about. There is loads of 24hour shops open and so on. would recommend it. There really nothing to worry about, you here about muggers ever where on holiday, just stay safe. I never saw any hookers when i was there. If your not into buying stuff then you could always go to a quieter spot but Sunny Beach is the main "strip". Have fun ... if you go

Отговор : If you can help avoiding the touristy areas, where things are very expensive; and go inland to see the real Bulgaria, it would be ideal; but I suppose you want to go to the seaside. Try Albena - the sea floor there is better than at Golden Sands. If you have time, go to Dobrich, see the Botanical garden in Balchik. Veliko Tarnovo is a beatiful town; lots of old ruins and history about it.
And yes, use common sense - don't go out at night alone, with people you don' t know; negotiate a price first before using a taxi; be careful with your valuables.
There are good apples and bad apples in every basket.

Where can I get Bulgarian citizenship?
I have heard that in the last month corrupt officials have been opening the back door to bulgarian citizenship for as little as 87euro. Is this true? )

1. In Bulgaria 2. Marry a Bulgarian
Now about corrupt Bulgarian officials, yes there might be, but how are you going to pass yourself off as Bulgarian if you can't speak the lingo or relate to anything in the country. Sure, you might have a piece of paper but you must convince others.
This corruption only lines the pockets of the officials but you're basically back at step 1.

Отговор : One would think you have to travel to Bulgaria and apply when you are there, but why would you want Bulgarian citizenship? You've obviously never been there. What I mean is, it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Bulgaria.

Bulgaria, Um.... Bulgaria and um.... Bulgaria, And maybe it is true

Where are you from?
I might marry you and swap citizenships

87 Euro? The corruption here is in high levels, my friend... Are you from Bulgarian origin? Or macedonian... The macedonian are bulgarians too..hehe...

Who is Dimitar Berbatov?
Описание: ( I want to know your personal opinion, no copy-paste of web site. )

The best player Bulgarian and Spurs has right now.
Speciality - Great finish, great vision, creativity
Weaknesses - Work rate, team work, pace

Отговор : Dimitar Berbatov is a striker who plays for Tottenham Hotspur and Bulgaria. He's not the fastest of centre-forwards but his ball control, hold up play, creativity and finishing are second to none. He is one of the top strikers in the Premiership at the moment and is rumoured to be a main target of manchester United.

Отговор : Dimitar Berbatov is one of the best player from BULGARIA since Hristo Stoichkov era in the 90's. he is currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur in ENGLAND & he could be playing for one of the big clubs in Europe in the future.

Talented albeit tempramental choker striker who plays Spurs(club that is the epitome of choking )

Отговор : To my best of knowledge, Dimitar Berbatov is a Bulgarian international currently plying his trade at Tottenham Hotspur. He is a proven striker, definitely a talented goalscorer, and one of the best outside the Big Four. He was linked with a move to Manchester United. A report from ESPNsoccernet or Sky Sports gave an insight of his work rate at Spurs (which is not impressive) and is also known to be unhelpful to team spirit, making him a contributing factor, direct or indirect, to Tottenham's poor start to the season. A version of Barcelona forward Thierry Henry.

Отговор : dimitar berbatov is a bulgarian striker who plays for tottenham,a club based in northern london.../
he's fast, athletic and finishes verryyy well.....he's quick and has magnificent shoots....he usually partners with either robby keane or jermain defoe....
manchester united are currently trying buy him...

Отговор : this good guy who plays on totheham

Отговор : a good striker playing for hotspur

Bulgarian and Tottenham Hotspurs striker Dimitar Berbatov is perhaps the best finisher in the Premier League if not in Europe. He has excellent skills and goal scoring abilities.

Who???HUH????Owh wait,is it that striker that wants to leave Spurs but also in the same time wants to stay.hum?
act,i dont give a DAM#.lol.

What is wrong with bulgaria?
Im born in bulgaria and when i was 6 i went to live in canada. now i returned back to bulgaria. It seems awesome and not so diffirent from canada. why are people so negative about bulgaria? its not that poor. )

Buts its in eastern europe...meaning its inferior to the rest of europe...dont you keep up to date with european affairs??

I guess you would of had to have been raised there to answer your question. Or research it.

Отговор : I have never been there, but I have never been negative about or said anything negative about bulgaria, nor have i heard anything negative said about bulgaria. In fact, i haven't even ever really heard very much about bulgaria. Whether that is good or bad i don't know.

Отговор : Someone that I work with has been holidaying there for about five or six tears now, he finds the Bulgarians very friendly and enjoys the whole experience. I think most of what people in the UK think is wrong with Bulgaria is more to do with the inability of our press to say anything constructive about any other country in Europe.

Bulgaria is a wonderful country, with fantastic people. I saved for years to buy a modest holiday home there, and go whenever I can.
However, this is not the same as saying that it is not a poor country. Years of mismanagement by the soviets of an already weak economy have left Bulgaria struggling. The EEC has contributed substantially to assist improving infrastructure, such as roads, but any rural journey shows that many of these friendly and welcoming people are struggling with grinding poverty.
Does this mean there is something "wrong" with Bulgaria? Not in my opinion. They are trying their best. It's just that they could do with some help.

Отговор : Well I am Bulgarian living in Canada also, not as long as you but 7 years.I will give you an example with what is wrong with Bulgaria. My father die last year from cancer, after he died people discovered that the cancer medication was deluded, nobody was held responsible for that.My mother lives there and after 27 years working she receives $70 leva pension.IMPOSSIBLE to survive on.If I don't send her money she will be homeless.
There is no shelters,no social programs, domestic violence is ignored by police, there is a lot of corruption.Bulgaria is nice only if you have your own business or if you visit with money. If you have to work for somebody you are screwed.

Is Bulgaria as a member of the EU richer than Serbia?
Most of the serbs think, their country Serbia is richer than Bulgaria. but I think, the investitions in Bulgaria are ten times more than in Serbia, and not only this. Let me know what is richer generally. Thank you! )

Отговор : Maybe the investments are bigger in Bulgaria right now but I visited it twice in last few months and it doesn't look any richer than Serbia. Belgrade is five times bigger (and better) metropolis than Sofia. Salaries are smaller in Bulgaria than in Serbia and their roads and cities look really depressive. From economical point of view I think Serbia is more ready for EU than Bulgaria.

Bulgaria.

I think Bulgaria, it has a MUCH better tourist trade.
the stain of all the civil wars is only really just starting to leave Serbia in the world's eyes, but Croatia has gone on to become a very popular tourist destination so perhaps there is hope in the future for them.
but on the whole Bulgaria is seen as a much more desirable place, you get not only tourists but a lot of Western European expats coming to Bulgaria to start businesses in the hospitality industry and I really can't see that happening in Serbia just yet.

Отговор : After winning the City of the Future for South-East Central Europe, the Serbian capital has won the second round of this prestigious competition. The award was presented to the mayor of Belgrade Mr. Nenad Bogdanović.
Financial Times has organized European cities and regions of the future for 2006/07 and, after winning the second round, Belgrade was awarded the name City of the future in Southern Europe. SIEPA, together with the USAID’s project – SEDP has nominated Belgrade for this award. The region of Southern Europe, where Belgrade is the City of the future, includes Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Mediterranean islands (Cyprus, Malta, Sicily, Crete, etc.).
The awards were also given to London (City of the Future in Northern Europe), Paris (City of the Future in Western Europe), Brno (City of the Future in Central Europe), and Baku (City of the Future in Eastern Europe). These five cities are competing for the final award of being named the European city of the future for 2006/07.
The competition for city and regions of the future is given on all continents and is organized by the specialized edition of the Financial Times for foreign and direct investments, FDI Magazine. The title carries a recommendation for the biggest future investment location, by the most recognized financial newspaper in the world. Categories and criteria by which the judges have made their decision are based on economic potential, cost effectiveness, human resources, IT and telecommunications, transport, quality of life and FDI promotion. The final winner of the "European city of the future for 2006/07" contest is London.

Отговор : I would say Bulgaria. Frankly speaking, Yugoslavia was a prospering country , so the capital of nowadays Serbia Belgrade was a rich place with a lots of investments coming in. but after the war the country suffered a lot and hasn't recovered yet. So judging by my experience visiting both, i would say Bulgaria is richer by far.

Without any long motivations I say Bulgaria ( and I have to correct my mistake, Bulgaria IS a member of EU, sorry). Bulgaria is already quite a good country for tourists to visit.

Отговор : Bulgaria all out because I invested $5,000 USD in Bulgaria in an property and if i sell it now i will get $85,000 USD yea and i bought it 3 years ago. Proof. and a friend of mine that bought property in Serbia bought it 4 years ago and has gained $5,000 USD and bought it for $15,000 USD

Отговор : If Belgrade pretends to be richer than Sofia, it should build at least a metro system and many other things that Sofia has got them. I think, every city has its beauty, but Belgrade needs to eat more bread until it reaches Sofia. Greetings from Italy. I've been in Bulgaria five times, and the coast, the buildings and nice nature, I don't think, Serbia will have them one day. Serbia needs to keep its geografy, not fighting with Bulgaria.....

Bulgarian people are much poorer than Serbs.

Bulgaria's Population Improving?
Is the population of Bulgaria going to improve since from 1990 was 9,000,000 million and now is around 7 million. Are there any sources that tell that bulgaria's population is going to improve? )

Birth rate is very low and the population is old thats why we are decreasing in number. We are in demographic crisis :( i dont think there will be improvement soon.

Decrease will probably slow down because of accession to EU, but the trend might not reverse.

The population in Bulgaria is in decline, this is not due to a low birth rate but rather high level of immigration to elsewhere in Europe.
The main age group to immigrate are those of 21-30 years in age due to better working prospects elsewhere.
The trend will probably not alter in the near future, in fact the population decline may increase due to accession to the European Union.

Bulgarian mafia?
bulgarian mafia own the victoria palace, bulgaria. ive booked a holiday here in a few weeks . am i safe?? what precautions should i take. )

Отговор : hey, i'm bulgarian and i can tell you that you shouldn't worry about the mafia at all, but rather the regular pocket pickers (mostly gypsies). if you follow this advice, it would save you so much trouble. trust me. DO NOT place valuebles in your pockets (i.e. money, watches, earings, rings, passports..etc) while riding in public transportation such as busses and trolleys. i say again, just DON'T do it, but rather place them in an inside hidden pocket if you have to carry them with you. the gypsies are VERY skilled and they can tell you're a tourist....by the time you blink they can take your wallet out of your pocket without you even know it. and in generall, just be aware of your bags (luggage) in crowded areas. but lol, you don't have to worry about the mafia...unless you are one of them and have some "business" there...otherwise enjoy your stay, it is a very beatiful country with very nice people :-)

Отговор : don`t worry! what is your connection to BG mafia:) if you`re tourist- don`t worry!

Learning Bulgarian?
I want to learn Bulgarian....whats the best way to go about it? Ive looked in local bookshops and cant find a book on it, but i guess i can find one online. or would it be better to find someone to teach me? is it a hard language to learn?....they use the cyrillic alphabet which i find confusing. Im fairly good at languages, i pick them up pretty quick....how long do you think it would take me to get reasonably good at Bulgarian? Ideally i'd like to be able to speak it fairly well (the basics) by summer (July). Obviously i dont expect to master it by then but a basic understanding would be great. what do you lot reckon? )

Отговор : Hi, Bulgarian is a pretty difficult language to learn mostly because of the grammar and pronunciation but when you finish learning it, it's a beautiful language to speak. Since as you pick up languages quick, I think that by July you'll be able to speak and write words and simple phrases! If you put your mind to it, you can do anything. :) The best way of learning it is through a Bulgarian speaker because most of the books on the language nowadays are quite confusing so the best way is through a teacher but if you can't find one, below are some links to Bulgarian books.
Hope that helps and Good luck! :) PS (I am a Bulgarian) ;)

Отговор : Hmm well I think the sites the person above me metioned are pretty good. But I also have an idea for you. Why not try finding a pen pal online? This will allow you to put everything you've been learning into action. You'll have the chance to exchange e-mails with a native speaker who can point out mistakes in your letters. Additionally they can teach you cool things like slang that you would never be able to learn in a classroom. Plus, you'd be doing them a favor if they want you to teach them English. Believe me, I've done this with both Spanish and Portuguese (two languages that I've been learning) and it has helped tremendously. I have a penpal from Brazil (for Portuguese) and another from Mexico (for Spanish) and I've become pretty good friends with both of them. Well, if you would like me to send you a really good website that doesn't cost anything (because some of them are rip-offs that make you pay) just send me an email or somethin' and I'll help you out.
I hope you have fun learning Bulgarian and don't give up : ) Good Luck!

Отговор : Bulgarian is easier to learn for a native English speaker than other related languages because it doesn't have much of a case system. The Cyrillic alphabet is also easy as it is basically like ours, with characters for vowels as well as consonants, printed rather than cursive and having the same form regardless of where they are in a word. It also has a form for "the", like English has.
I reckon you could knock it off in a few months, well enough to read important signs, order food and make hotel and travel arrangements at least.

Отговор : Well start by going to a night class, just to learn the basics at first. Then try going for a slightly more advanced class. At some point actually go and visit bulgaria because hearing and speaking (and reading) the language everyday really helps you to learn new words and phrases. Be warned, it is a hard language to learn.

Do Bulgarian women make good wives?

Отговор : I have a lot of Bulgarian friends and dated a couple of them too. I, myself, am Maltese - Canadian. Judging by my good friends they make as good of a wife as any really. Very domestic yet independant, smart women. Beautiful too.

Отговор : what does that mean?

If they love their husbands.........

Отговор : maybe.

Отговор : yes

Отговор : as long as they can cook and clean the house

Can a man make a good husband?

Bulgarian women are very loyal but also expect loyalty in return. It's all about respect for each other.

You can't generalize crap like that.. and what the hell is a "good wife??"

Отговор : Do American, Czech, Russian, Chinese, Japanese women have potential to become good wives? This is very subjective. If you're asking that because you're going to marry a Bulgarian and you're not sure if she'll be a "good wife", you have to ask yourself what's a good wife (for you), what you expect from this person and what you want to give. There is no rule for being good or bad :)

What do you think about the case with bulgarian medics in Libya?
I want to see your personal opinion. )

Отговор : I live in Bulgaria so I do know a little about this case. They were accused of killing hundreds of children by giving them the aids virus. This was to cover up the terrible conditions of their dirty hospitals. They have now all been released and are safely back in Bulgaria after spending years on death row in Libya.

Отговор : Micheal is right. Unfortunately, many countries in the world lack the knowledge, training and supplies to properly care for their people. Many innocent people in Africa were infected because the 'hospitals' had to re-use syringes and didn't have proper sterilization equipment. This went on for 10 + years and now look at the HIV rate in African countries, while they try to blame prostitution, many were infected getting immunizations and by having blood drawn, etc, etc. It is quite sad.

They should not have gone there. They should have gone to dubai.

What do you know about bulgarian history?
Описание:( I will appreciate if you express your personal opinion rather than referring to the information in other websites or sources. )

They invented the buger.

B*lgar all

Almost as much as I know about Bulgarian geography. Please ask more Bulgaria-related questions.
I don't look at websites. I have a library.
Will 'studying Bulgarian gymnastics' become a new euphemism?

Very little.
I know that Bulgaria was once part of the Byzantine Empire and that around the time that Pliska became the capital was the 1st Bulgarian Empire.
Byzantines spreading Christianity around like wildfire.
Then they fought for Constantinople.
Then they struggled continually against Byzantine rule.
Then the Normans came and the Turks which weakened Byzantine control. That led to Bulgaria becoming part of the Ottoman Empire (huge Muslim influence) but the Ottoman Empire fell after many revolts and i think Bulgaria and Russia teamed up for the Russo-Turkish War.
I know after that were some Balkan Wars ( i think with Greece).
Then after WWII Bulgaria kinda split from Russia more so.
I know its kinda choppy but thats all I can remember about Bulgaria.

As of 1937 it is law that you can claim a goat as a family member on your income tax.

Отговор : actually not much. i do know that Bulgaria was fought over several times and overrun by numerous barbarian tribes.

Next to nothing, except King Ferdinand was from some German family. You guys were on the losing team in WW2 and got stuck with communism for the next 45 years.

Отговор : Bulgaria had the misfortune of being between the Greeks, Austrians, Russians, Ottomans and Scandinavians. Everyone was always pushing and pulling at them in the battle over land where Central and Eastern Europe collide. It makes for a "rich tapestry", but also a lot of instability in the region and frequent upheaval. There's also a problem with the collision of religion. The Orthdox, Catholics and Muslims got to hate each other fierociously and started wars just out of spite, as is true of the whole region. That made for a lot of transition, with entire villages being uprooted or "ethnically cleansed" in trying to "clean up the neighborhood."
On a more upbeat note, it's also some of the best food in Europe and their weaving and cloth making beats the heck out of the Flemish.

Not much, I'm afraid, although I'd be interested in learning more.
Part of Byzantine empire.
Most of Bulgaria was converted to Eastern Orthodox.
Partially overrun by Ottoman Empire.
At sometime, mangaed to expel Ottoman invaders.
Took part in Balkan War with Russia and Ottoman Empire.
Sided with Axis powers in WWI and WWII.
Became Communist.
Stopped being Communist.
I've read books that involve a little bit of medieval Bulgarian history and culture (under Ottoman empire), and I found it very interesting.

Отговор : do not have a personal opinion. I do know they are one of the first regions to have a written script and long before mesopotamia as evidenced in the vinca culture that inhabited that region. I am also familiar with the Thracians and their interesting language, unfortunately not much is still known about it with the exception of some personal names and toponyms.

Отговор : First Bulgaria existed in Asia, but was attacked by Mongolian tribes and had to move somewhere else. They moved on the land that they are now, but there were already other people there - the Slavs. The Slavs told them if they could help them defeat the Byzantines because the two nations often fought against each other for land, that if they help them they will gather in one. The Bulgarians accepted the proposal and the Slavs and Bulgarians gathered together in one and created Bulgaria again in year 681. Bulgaria and the Byzantine Empire fought against each other for very long. Later Bulgaria was under Byzantine slavery but for not too long. Many years after that when The Byzantine Empire no longer existed came the Ottoman Empire and in 1396 conquered the whole Balkan Peninsula. The slavery continued 500 years, but Bulgaria was finally free in 1878 with the help of the Russians in the Russo-Turkish War. After that came the communism, in 1989 Bulgaria was no longer a communist country. This is a very very short version of mine about the Bulgarian history =]

What do you think of Bulgarian women?
I knew one along time ago and she liked to use people. )

Отговор : I'm not Bulgarian, but it sounds like you're trying to warn people that if they encounter one, watch out, she might use you. I could make a random nationality and personality about anyone, for example (just RANDOM) I could tell someone I know a greedy Dutch. I may be trying to give the impression that many or all Dutch are greedy. So if that is what you are trying to do, I would appreciate it if you could not. Thanks :) By the way, I'm not convinced at all that many, most, or all Bulgarian women like to use people. This was just one of your encounters.

They are HOT ! ! !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you have any idea how hot the women in Bulgaria are? We should ship them in????
(I'm dead serious. If you're a bulgarian chick, help me prove my theory.)

I'm not sure if they will be too keen on that idea. I think they prefer good looking guys...................

Bring in the babes...

I am one I might be preety but you are just crule I live in the us but we are women people not trophies so get that in ur head and beat it

What do you know about bulgarian politics?
Tell me what do you know about bulgarian politics? Are they good or bad people, are they honest or not? Are they hard-worker or not? )

Zero, zilch, nada, bipkis...if anyone knows anything about Bulgarian politics they might want to seriously reevaluate how they spend their time.

Enough to say I don't care. But they make a mean goulash!

Nothing.
I'd like to visit the Eastern Block some day. I hear at least the Polish love America.

I know nothing about Bulgarian politics... and damn you for mentioning it because now I'll have to go look some stuff up! :P

Who is Azis?

Azis is singer known for, among other things, his atypical gender expression and his flamboyant persona. His real name is Vasil Troyanov Boyanov. Azis has recorded and performed many songs with some of the most popular Bulgarian pop-folk singers. He began his political career in 2005 as a member of the Evroroma political party and ran in the general elections campaign in the summer of 2005, but didn't receive enough votes to become a member of Parliament.

On 01 October 2006, Azis married his husband Niki Kitaetsa. Their marriage is not legally recognized given the laws of Bulgaria.

Azis appeared on the VIP Brother 2 version of Big Brother Bulgaria alongside Niki Kitaetsa. Azis left the house voluntarily after nineteen days.

On 05 August 2007 Azis became a father. His newborn daughter is named Raya. Raya was conceived via artificial insemination; the baby's mother is Azis' life-long friend Gala.

Why did Bulgaria's Jewish population survive WW2?
The Jewish populations of only 3 European countries survived the war intact, including Bulgaria's. This is despite Bulgaria being an Axis power. I know that when Hitler restored Bulgarian land lost during WW1, the czar (Boris III?) caved to demands that he deport the Jewish populations there. When the Nazis demanded the deportation of Bulgarian Jews the czar signed the papers but recinded partly due to a Christian mystic (maybe) and partly due to the fact that the deportation was highly unpopular. My question is: why, when almost every other country in Europe deported their Jews (sometimes happily), was it such an unpopular decision in Bulgaria? )

Great question!
Here is a useful link that give the answer better than I can in a small space. The Danes have a similar story to tell, by the way--spearheaded by the ruling monarchs of the time. ( http://www.omda.bg/ENGL/history/jewshist.htm )

Отговор : You'll have to do some research in history. Most of the people on this board are brainwashed young dumbsters, who don't even think that a holocaust existed. They don't even know where the states are on a map, if they can even locate the U.S. at all.

Helping my son with a School Project (History Of WWII)-- I was completely dumbfounded at the information I was finding on WWII.

**We never studied in school what I found on the Internet***

After completing and submitting the Project, It was rejected by the school due to the detail of how horrific this all was.
If the educators do not teach the whole truth, how are we to learn from our past.

Thank you for your question. I will read farther into Bulgaria.
Sorry I could not answer your question, but now you know why.

Funny to come upon this question, I am going to Bulgaria in two days.
The reason Bulgaria's Jews survived the war is because the Jews were supported by the population. The government did not want to make any waves so they made a deal with the Germans, they would hand over the Jews from the lands they occupied in Macedonia and Greece in the amount that was equal to their Jewish population. They were about 11,000 people short, so they had to deport 11,000 of their own Jews to make the number what they said it would be. Another part of the deal they made with the Germans was that they would imprison the rest of their Jews in camps. This was done, but after the war they were released. This is how the Jews of Bulgaria were largely saved from the Holocaust.

Bulgaria Prices?

Отговор : You will find it hard to get a qualified opticians in either sunny beach or golden sands, I don't think you could use your prescription over there, when I was in Bulgaria several years ago designer frames was not very modern - with things like that they are about 20 years behind us and the same with clothes, if you've not been before you will find it a different way of life, when I was there we couldn't even buy milk for our coffee we had to que up at a health clinic and buy baby formula, It reminded me of during the war when you qued up for the rations. That's why they all want into our country, watch out for the prostitutes they are everywhere.

I always use OPTIK MATT - they sell German lenses and frames; very good quality.
A pair of heliomatic glasses with a good-looking frame can be about 400 lv.
My husband had some bifocals made, about 700 lv.
Good service, friendly and reliable.
They also sell lenses - Bausch and Lomb; with all the solutions and containers you might need for them.
There is a doctor in the afternoon; if you order with them, the consultation is free.

I agree with what Svetla said. I also went to Optik Matt. I have bought stuff from there and they are still perfect! But I do admit that I had to wait for my glasses for about 2 weeks...

Отговор : Optik Matt are to be recommended but there are many other opticians to choose from. Your best bet is Bourgas or Varna where you will find many optician that can cater for your needs and a a price that will make you never want to buy from a UK optician again. You may have to wait for your prescription but if you order within the first day or so on your trip this should be more than enough time for you to go back home with them.
Designer frames are available and the quality is good at the top end with a good choice in the Cities so no worries there.
Just one other word of reassurance, the Bulgarian opticians are just as well qualified, in fact better qualified than some UK 'quick fit' services and you will get a much better personal service from them as well!

Often times there are 12 dishes prepared, and bread sometimes is cooked with strips of paper portraying a luck or fortune wrapped in foil and baked inside.
Food with poppy seed is popular, including a drink made from grinding poppy seeds into milk and mixing it with warm water that the “kids go crazy about.”

Sometimes also would use red chilies because they were more colorful
Now that Bulgarians are able to celebrate the traditional Christmas, the area her family lives is becoming more mainstream.
“Decorating streets (for Christmas) is now just entering Eastern Europe,” It's very awkward to see.”

EASTERN EUROPE: CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN BULGARIA

If you lived in Eastern Europe, would you celebrate Christmas differently than you do here in the United States? The answer is yes, but each Eastern European country’s traditions are slightly different.

Christmas is a very important holy day in BULGARIA. It is also very family-centered. Santa Claus is the gift-giver and just as in many other nations, children write a letter to Santa Claus to tell him what they want for Christmas. Around the 23rd of December, your and your family will go out to the shops and buy the food and other items needed for the holiday, including a Christmas tree. Since Bulgarian Christmases are very cold and often snowy, the food that can’t fit in the refrigerator can be left outside on the ledge of the balcony. Next, you and your family will bring the Christmas tree into the living room. Decorating is done to the music of Christmas carols playing on the CD player, and you may even sing along! Multicolored lights or candles are put on the tree along with ornaments and cotton balls to imitate snow. Can you reach high enough to put the star on the top of the tree?

During the day of December 24th, your mother will begin preparing traditional vegetarian food. No meat is served at the Christmas Eve dinner. When evening comes, you will put on your best clothes and everyone will gather at the home of the oldest grandparent for a big dinner. Among the traditional foods you will eat, are white bean soup, red dried peppers filled with white beans, and boiled prunes served in their liquid.

The dinner ends with another Bulgarian Christmas custom. The oldest person breaks off pieces of the traditional homemade bread in which a coin was placed before it was baked. Everyone gets a piece and whoever gets the piece with the coin in will become very wealthy in the New Year. Will you get the coin? The Christmas Eve table is not cleared until the following morning, a typical tradition to insure that there will be plenty of food in the coming year.

Christmas morning, you will wake up to find that Santa left your presents under the Christmas tree. Everyone opens their presents and then has breakfast. During the day, you might call friends and relatives to wish them “Chestita Koleda” (Merry Christmas) and “Chestita Nova Godina” (Happy New Year). Maybe you’ll make arrangements to meet somewhere and have a snowball fight! In the evening everyone stays up late or goes to a Christmas Concert in the theater! Sooroovakane, the patting of adults by children with a specially made sort of stick-wand is an interesting Bulgarian Christmas tradition. The stick-wand is called a Sooroovachka. It is made from a short thick stick with branches all along either side. The branches are tied together to form round circles with the trunk of the stick in the center of the circles. The circles and the trunk of the stick are wrapped with red and white woolen and cotton yarn and then decorated with little cotton balls, strings of popcorn, raisins, prunes, and dried apple slices, and dried peppers. Using the Sooroovachka , children pat their parents, grandparents, extended family, friends and any visitors in the house after the Christmas Eve. While patting, the kids say a wish for health, wealth, and happiness to one patted. It is believed that this action, called Sooroovakan, will make all wishes come true during the next year and will make sure that the year will be very fertile and productive for the person patted. But the patted person must “buy” their success for the coming year by giving the child patting them money. Who would you want to Sooroovakan?

Please give your opinion of what you think of Bulgaria and why?
Описание ( I just dont get it? Are most of the people so negative about Bulgaria? Were you born there?
I just finished reading some comments on Bulgaria and i am actually pist off(this not only pissed me off but made me cry). How come people make such objective opinion when in fact they really dont have a clue what they are talking about.Bulgaria is poor the one said. They steal the other one said. They dont speak English third one said.Only few people that really have some knowledge had to say normal things.I am Bulgarian neither i steal neither i am poor and in fact got degree and my husband family is English. So nothing against but explain why so horrible unfair things are said? Please give your opinion of what you think of Bulgaria and why .How well you think you know.I will be also very happy if there is any other bg people to tell everybody how they feel?Thanks... )

Отговор : I am Greek and I have very positive attitude towards Bulgarian people. Bulgaria brings to my mind a beautiful church (I think it is called Alexander Nevsky) in Sophia and roses (southern Bulgaria I think). Also a famous convent/monastery(?) (Rilla?) It is true that Bulgaria is considered a less wealthy state than western European states but nobody blames the Bulgarian people but communism (some counties are considered to have cultures of laziness). And even if some Greek people consider Bulgaria less wealthy they often characterize it as cultivated like other eastern European countries. I remember when I visited Italy many people told me to be careful because many people there steel. Stupid stereotypes don't meen anything. Even positive stereotypes are sometimes stupid.
Here are some stereotypes that will make you understand that stereotypes about Bulgarian people aren't something special.
So, for Greek people:

Italians steel
French are dirty and they don't shower much
English males are gay
Arabs and perhaps Mexicans are lazy
Dutch people are drug addicts
Scandinavian females are sex maniacs
For the rest of the world Greeks are pedophiles and so on with the stupidity

Positive stereotypes are also silly
All Italians are opera experts
All Eastern Europeans play chess and love ballet
All French are romantic
I hope that you get my point

C'mon guys

I like Bulgaria very much, and I have no idea why someone would speak negatively about them?
